Taking the crown.
And so it was on this day, that I and the major snails dealer met in the market. It was epic. She had just been given a huge shock. Her demand to buy up all available stock was turned down. True to character, she hadn’t been to the market in a while to know that I had won over the market women up to the council workers (tax collectors) and the “area boys”.
At this point, discovering that for my sake her demands won’t be met; something that erstwhile will never have happened, she knew she had to relinquish the crown to someone that about a year ago was a rookie. And it only took me to surpass her volume, show up regularly and interact with everyone in the market with a readiness to make myself available in untypical ways. If she had doubts, with area boys in the picture; they’re enough to prove and showcase anyone’s street credibility, as they have all the praises required to hail success. Their vast vocabulary of titles to describe their allegiance and respect for someone is enough to make a larger than life impression about anyone.
However, the real advantage of my success was that I discovered from deep within the furnace of my mind that doing business must always be to wear a crown. This insight was what made all of my experience worth it. I’ll say I probably acquired a rare kind of business lesson that no business school will teach.
Do I mean to say gaining street credibility is a business lesson? No! Rather I mean the insight of knowing that a veritable end of doing business must be to wear a crown. In other words, why will you do business if you’re not going to be a leader in that area of business or industry?
I am sharing the most fundamental lesson that has given me the crown of Nigeria’s foremost logo designer. And you can do the same to achieve your calling. 1/ It starts by realizing that there’s a crown to be worn. 2/ Recreate your knowledge and expertise into something special. 3/ Acquire enough proof. 4/ Do more for people with all you’ve acquired. 5/ Always be available. 6/ Repeat 1-6 ever so often till it’s a habit. I’ll talk about these on another topic.
