His work sits at the intersection of identity, enterprise, culture and institutional development. EDUCATION

Dayo Abiola is a graduate of Political Science from the University of Ibadan. His academic and professional development includes The Power of Branding, a University of East Anglia course delivered through FutureLearn, and a Master’s degree in Policy and Public Administration from the Federal University Dutse.

His academic background in political science and public administration complements his professional expertise in identity, giving his work a distinctive intersection of creative practice, enterprise strategy, public policy and institutional development. His study of The Power of Branding further deepened his understanding of how identity, perception, positioning and value influence the relationship between organisations and the people they seek to serve. This informs his approach to logo design and corporate identity, enabling him to consider an identity not merely as a visual creation, but as a strategic asset that must express ambition, establish distinction and support the organisation it represents.

For more than 18 years, Dayo Abiola has worked at the intersection of design, identity and enterprise.

In 2014, he founded Dayo Abiola Consulting Ltd, establishing a specialist practice focused on logo design and corporate identity.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE BEFORE FOUNDING DAYO ABIOLA CONSULTING

Before founding Dayo Abiola Consulting Ltd, Dayo Abiola built a broad professional foundation across creative production, design, corporate identity, marketing communications, media, account management and strategic consultancy. Beginning his professional career shortly after his NYSC, he took on increasingly significant responsibilities, gaining experience across businesses, institutions, entrepreneurial ventures, media organisations and major corporate and commercial establisments in Nigeria.

His early professional experience at Nova Promotions introduced him to the intersection of design, media, entertainment and commercial communications. He participated in photography and video coverage for major music, entertainment and corporate events, including the album launch of Sola, featuring Olufunmi, Yinka Davies, Dan Foster, TY and Holy Mallam, as well as events at the Muson Centre. He also photographed prominent Nigerian artistes, including KWAM 1, Saheed Osupa, Pasuma, Weird MC, ID Cabasa, Mode 9 and P-Square, during their visits and recording sessions at EkoReelMix Studios in the LSBC Compound.

His work at Nova Promotions also included producing marketing campaign materials for Kola Music Publishing, an affiliate of EMI Music, and designing event materials for the official launch of Frontier Reelmix Live at the Muson Centre. He supervised the deployment and installation of multimedia equipment for the Dunlop Nigeria Plc send-off ceremony for Gamaliel Onosode. He also co-filmed and co-edited the documentary Values for Youth Empowerment and Nation Building for CHESTRAD International, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation. The documentary featured an interview with Frank Nweke Jr., former Federal Minister for Information and National Orientation, alongside other prominent Nigerians.

At Marjiqual Promotions Limited, his responsibilities expanded into account management, creative direction, business development and corporate communications. He managed accounts including Stanbic Bank, Aquitane Oil and Gas Ltd, Erhiatake Property Development Company, Victofil Associates and Rehoboth Christian Center, among others. He developed and presented creative solutions for Aquitane Oil and Gas, Erhiatake Properties, Linro Consulting, Nova Promotions and Meristem Securities. These assignments covered corporate calendars and diaries, web UI/UX design, event materials and other corporate communications.

He created distinct corporate identities for organisations including Victofil Associates and Softcad Technologies. He also developed the design competency of members of his unit and contributed to the company’s expansion through marketing and public relations initiatives.

At Interactive Media Consulting, LLC, he served as Head of the Corporate Identity Group, the department responsible for corporate identity and user-centric design. His work included the identity and user experience design of Sophia ERP, an enterprise resource planning solution recognised by an early adopting organisation for its ease of use in comparison with the leading ERP solution of the period.

He also contributed to identity and communication projects including NOBA Oil and Gas, Sub-Surface Consultants Ltd., and the Nigeria on My Mind project associated with Donald Duke, the distinguished former Governor of Cross River State. These assignments further developed his understanding of identity, visual communication and user experience across corporate and public-facing projects.

His strategic responsibilities extended beyond design. He formulated the “INFORM and ENGAGE” marketing strategy for Filmo Realty, a high-net-worth real estate and facilities management company, and trained its marketing unit. He also planned and executed staff on-brand behavioural coding for the company. In addition, he conducted research consulting for the programme and content launch of a BBC series on DStv on behalf of a reputable advertising agency.

His growing specialisation in identity and strategic visual communication was further demonstrated through significant assignments during this period. He designed the logo and provided brand direction for the African Book Awards, earning strong recommendations from partners of the awards across Africa. He named, defended, designed and defined the brand orientation of Interactive Media Consulting’s proprietary Enterprise Resource Planning solution. For a leading IT application development company, three of four logos submitted for its new fully functional mobile application products were selected as winning designs. He also designed the monthly electronic communication journal for Equatorial Trust Bank for distribution to staff nationwide.

His engagement with FlauntModel Nigeria, a leading modelling agency, marked a further progression into consultancy and corporate communications. Over a three-year period, he managed the agency’s corporate communications and contributed to expanding its presence across Nigeria, the United States, the United Kingdom and Brussels. He developed its online and social media presence and designed and executed modelling events including FUF, FUNHOP, MFOL and FlauntGirl.

He facilitated collaborations with reputable fashion, media, advertising and entertainment organisations. He also wrote and produced the agency’s theme song and contributed to increasing the number of registered models. He secured media attention for the agency’s programmes through Galaxy TV, Mikeangelo News and News of the People magazine. During this period, he also co-organised a street carnival in a high-brow residential area of Ikeja, supported by Olu Maintain and Seun Kuti and featuring several emerging artistes.

At 300Cubits Creative Consulting, he assumed broader leadership responsibility as Unit Head, Marketing Communications Design. His work encompassed creative direction, marketing communications, strategic development and team leadership. He introduced and facilitated training programmes that improved staff performance, networking skills and team cohesion while helping reduce workplace conflicts. He also developed the design competency of unit members and contributed to the company’s expansion through marketing and public relations initiatives.

During his time at 300Cubits, he handled the design of eBusinessLife, an ICT-focused magazine and media agency that was highly regarded within Nigeria’s technology ecosystem and maintained significant relationships with the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC). His involvement extended beyond the publication itself to the design requirements of its ICT events. These included programmes undertaken in collaboration with prominent technology and telecommunications companies such as Omatek, MTN and Airtel, among others. This experience placed him directly within the emerging intersection of technology, business, media and corporate communications in Nigeria.

Independent Professional Engagements

Alongside and following these institutional engagements, Dayo Abiola undertook a range of independent professional assignments across marketing communications, corporate and institutional design. He worked on marketing activation and campaign design requirements for Vicks Lemon, Pampers, Duracell and Pala Milk on behalf of Cranes and Ladders, a leading marketing communications consortium.

He also designed invitations and print communications for the groundbreaking ceremony of the launch of Alade Market II, undertaken in collaboration with Lagos State and partnering banks.

Across these successive engagements, Dayo Abiola developed an uncommon breadth of experience spanning design, corporate identity, marketing communications, media, public relations, strategy, account management, creative leadership and consultancy. More importantly, this progression brought him increasingly closer to the relationship between visual identity, organisational ambition and commercial influence. These experiences provided the professional and intellectual foundation upon which he subsequently founded Dayo Abiola Consulting Ltd, transforming a broad creative and communications career into the specialist practice in logo design and corporate identity consultancy for which he is now recognised.

THE ₦1 MILLION MILESTONE

Dayo Abiola is the first Nigerian logo designer to command and earn ₦1,000,000 for a single logo design. He achieved this at a time when, much as it remains today, logo design was commonly commoditized. In a creative ecosystem saturated with rookie designers openly offering logo design for as little as ₦5,000, even a ₦100,000 fee was often regarded as excessive by many small businesses, Dayo painstakingly built the conviction, discipline and professional confidence to believe he could command a fee that was, at the time, considered impossible.

The significance of the milestone, however, lies in what drove it. He did not set out to achieve a financial target. He set out to produce great work: a masterpiece worthy of its purpose. His conviction was that when the quality, thought and professional discipline invested in an identity are exceptional, the value it commands should reflect that excellence. The ₦1 million fee was therefore not the destination. It was the consequence of refusing to compromise the standard of the work.

Without the loudest voice or the most conspicuous presence in the market, Dayo was driven by a quiet determination to do exceptional work and uphold its value. His decision to place a higher value on strategic visual identity challenged prevailing perceptions of what a professionally conceived logo was worth.

More importantly, it reflected a conviction that has continued to define his practice: a logo is not merely a graphic. It is a company’s most Vital Visual Asset and a Symbol of Success deserving of commensurate professional value.

His advocacy for premium creative value has remained an important part of his professional philosophy: that designers should develop the expertise, discipline and authority required to command the economic value their work deserves.

SYMBOLISM FOR AFRICA’S INSTITUTIONAL RENAISSANCE

One of Dayo Abiola’s emerging areas of thought leadership is Indigenous Symbolism for Africa’s Institutional Renaissance.

The proposition is rooted in the idea that African institutions should be able to express their identity through symbols that carry African cultural, philosophical, ethical and moral meaning, rather than relying predominantly on inherited or generic visual conventions.

Such symbolism can communicate institutional values and aspirations: integrity, accountability, communal progress, service, justice, excellence and national or continental purpose.

In this view, the symbol of an institution should not merely identify it.

It should help communicate what the institution stands for.

Dayo Abiola advocates for a deeper consideration of how African symbols can contribute to the identity and perception of governments, public institutions, agencies and other organisations, particularly where identity can reinforce institutional values and aspirations.

This represents an expansion of his professional philosophy from identity as corporate differentiation to symbolism as an instrument of institutional expression and development.

IDENTITY, ENTERPRISE & AFRICA

Dayo Abiola’s broader intellectual position is that African enterprises must become increasingly intentional about how they identify and represent themselves in a global economy.

As African markets become more interconnected through initiatives such as the African Continental Free Trade Area, identity becomes increasingly consequential.

Enterprises need identities that communicate:

Who they are.
What they represent.
Why they matter.
Why they should be trusted.
Why they should be remembered.

His work therefore approaches identity as an element of economic infrastructure, rather than as an afterthought to business strategy.

ECONOMIC & SOCIAL VALUE

Dayo Abiola’s strategic visual architecture has contributed an estimated $6.88 billion in combined economic and social value for clients worldwide.

This figure represents the estimated combined value associated with businesses and organisations to which his professional work has contributed.

His philosophy is that the value of identity should ultimately be considered in relation to the organisations, institutions and enterprises it helps position for growth, recognition and relevance

THE PHILOSOPHY

At the centre of Dayo Abiola’s practice is a simple conviction:

Identity is not decoration. It is infrastructure.

For an enterprise, identity can influence differentiation, perception, recognition and commercial positioning.

For an institution, identity can communicate values, purpose, authority and aspiration.

For Africa, identity can become a means of expressing indigenous intellectual, cultural and philosophical thought while positioning African enterprises and institutions for a more confident global presence.

This is the territory Dayo Abiola continues to explore through his practice, writing, speaking and advocacy.

What can identity make possible?
