In the wake of what can be described as the biggest crowdfunding round in Nigerian history; over $300k raised within a space of 8hours, social media has done justice to sensationalize it in the true form of the character of the “omo baba owolo” (son of a rich man) himself.
I’m not exactly moved by the social media outcome, it is justified. Davido is an entertainer. He deserves the limelight, the accolades, the starlight attention, that’s what social media is meant to do for an entertainer.
What’s strangely “off” for me is the rising pedlars of “lessons to learn from…” proponents who in their typical way and at many different instances of the occurrence of sensational social media news take to social media to deliver their oft times unjustified point of view to the public. Why do I say off? I’m talking about views coming from people who have zero ideas about the music industry, who dare to raise business lessons or life’s lessons from the Davido money rain.
Fortunately for these pedlars, on a good number of sensational news on social media they jump on, I don’t throw any stone because in such instances I live in a glasshouse. It doesn’t mean that I’m sometimes not pushed to say nay to some views but because I don’t have all the required arsenal, I sheath my view. However, on this one, I live in a fortress. I have my stones ready to launch at any target.
So is this to attack anyone? Oh! No! “I’m a lover, not a fighter”. I’m a true Bruce Lee Fan, he said “Fighting without Fighting”. It is for your sake I write so that deception be far from you. And just in case you’ve read any of these so-called “lessons”, I want to deliver to you my experiential point of view. Yes! I’ve kept late nights on the streets of the music industry, so consider this an insider view to how Davido was able to pull his admirable and true character stunt.
Hence a subtitle: Lessons From Davido Raising Millions In 8 Hours.
1. The Nigerian music industry is arguably the biggest in Nigeria after Oil and Gas and it’s held mostly by young people.
