Isn’t it good? I quizzed this beautiful little girl on her comment about my dressing. I was wearing a crisply ironed shirt that I had tucked-in neatly. As far as I knew, I was more than ready to speak at a combined program of the Youth Fellowship & Youth Corps Service members in the Church.
Alright! I answered. I believed I was taking her advice and went back into the room to draw out another crisply ironed shirt. But again, she said No! Momentarily my mind wondered around the thought of, “you want to treat me like your mummy yeah?”.
Ok! What should I wear? A T-shirt, she said. What?!! I succumbed because I had promised myself that I was going to nurture her independent thinking by showing that her opinion will always be welcomed.
I go back into the room, undressed and redressed into a T-shirt and a pair of jeans. As I stepped out she smiled and said, better! As we left the house together I pondered on what had transpired, only to realize that I was going to talk to young people anyway. So, why not blend in.
She sat right in-front, watching me speak; smiling and giving me occasional thumbs up. The proudest moment of my speech was that I told my audience that I had dressed this way on the advice of this beautiful little girl.
I’ve never said this before. She corrected a little something on the #logo of Suya Palace and it came out remarkable.
